I'm happy with my existing plan. Out of curiosity I checked the site for a quote. A roughly equivalent plan would be 277% of what I pay now and would not include the dental coverage of my existing plan.  Where is my $2500/year savings???

DIS Daily Chart

There was discussion on the blog about DIS while the government employees were on "vacation" back around 10/3.  It was suggested that the 50 day sma would be a good place to look for support and if it failed to hold then the position should be stopped out.  Well, that trade would have ended with a small loss on 10/9. That day the stock tested Carter Worth's "smoothing mechanism" (aka the 150 day sma) and bounced nicely while printing a buy signal with the stochastic.  If the trade were re-entered (or a core position held) there are some juicy profits to take.

The stock is now in overbought territory so it may be wise to close the position or at least tighten a trailing stop just under the horizontal support line.  After this strong move from 63 to 69 it seems likely a pullback is in order.  (I have no position.)

SP-500 Daily Chart

Could be it's time for a rest.  Note the oversold stochastic with a drop in volume and the doji candle.  It's been quite a run from 1646.  You may want to bank some or most of that 100 point move.  There could be some positive earnings surprises but the spreading disappointment with the pricing of health insurance is a bit of a downer.

Until I realized the $US is down 6% since the 4th of July ...

If you use Java (if you don't know I suggest you do this) there is an update available and it fixes some of the more recent security issues.  The latest version is 7.0.450.18 

To check your current version (it may have updated automatically) go here.  If you are not running the latest version the link will inform you and offer the latest version.  It only takes a couple of minutes to download and install.

Note: You will be offered a tool bar as well.  I don't like it so I uncheck that option.  It won't hurt if you take it and you may like it.  It can be removed later if you try it and decide you don't want it.

P.S. - I'll stop by over the weekend and chat a little.  Hope y'all have done well with the opportunities this week has presented.  If you are up big time I hope you will take some off the table or at least tighten stops on some or most of your positions. :)))

SP-500 Daily Chart - Key Support Levels

Since there is still much mudslinging and little agreement in Washington, D.C. we should expect continued volatility.  That's good news for nimble traders.  If you do not fit that description then this could be a good time to lighten up your equity positions and wait for a trending environment to develop.

The horizontal white lines on this chart have been there since August 23rd.  They appear to have accurately identified inflection points.  As I write, the implied opening is just above the top white line.  If it fails to hold, look for a retest of the 50 day simple moving average.

If you look closely you will see a thin white line that meanders just below the moves higher and just above the moves lower.  That's the "southern line."  (The uninformed might call it the 8 period simple moving average.)  When the market is trending it is quite good for identifying buys and stops.  You won't catch all of the move up and you won't get out at the top but you can do well if you respect it.

The gap is filled at 45.80 or 46.75 depending on whether you count tails or not. (Call me a pig but I have always liked counting tails.)
